The Sunlight African Community Center (SACC) was founded by Ruphina Pettis, a native of Nigeria. The organization was granted its 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Services in November of 1996 and began serving the community in February of 2000. The organization was founded to help the under-served African immigrant community gain access to resources and tools for empowerment.
Our organization is focused on positive youth development through improving academic, artistic, and social skills, as well as developing the decisions-making and problem solving skills necessary to become successful students. Though our programs serve primarily African immigrant children and their families, our doors are open to any child who will positively benefit from our services.
