 Homework Help, Tutoring and Mentoring
Program Keeps SACC Students On Target
SACC students can now take advantage of a Tutoring and Mentoring for many
subjects, including homework, year-round, five days a week (Monday through Friday),
from 2pm. to 6 pm.
The tutoring and mentoring program is more than just help with homework-it also helps students
learn to deal with conflict resolution, and offers life skills training and leadership and personal
development workshops. With 24 volunteers from local colleges and the community on-hand to do the
tutoring and mentoring, the program has proven every bit as successful as everyone hoped.
"We all work as a team to empower these children with skills and life direction, so that they
can look forward to more than a life on the streets - a life they build with hard work, creative
thinking, and a standard of excellence," says Ruphina Pettis, founder of SACC.

 Summer Family Literacy Program
a Huge Success
The Summer Family Literacy Program is an interactive reading and writing course designed to enhance
relationships between parents and children, encourage self-development. What's more,
it makes the pursuit of learning interesting!
Parents are invited to the children's hour-long class, which includes group reading, one-on-one reading, language games, journaling and other writing
exercises. The adult class, which children may also attend, focuses on reading and writing skills as well, but may include real-life situation
education such as working with application forms, interviewing skills and journaling.
Remarks from the Assistant Chairman
The reason that I have supported Sunlight African Community Center is for the sake of the innocent children who benefited from its existence.
The endeavor was initiated out of love of one woman's heart for the benefit of so many children who might have been neglected,
ironically as their parents are too busy trying to build a better life for their children. But by establishing this center; a safe haven for these children,
Ms. Ruphina Pettis has given children much needed help. She has provided them with academic assistance, help with social grooming, trips to places
that they would not have otherwise gone to, and a safe place for them to grow each and every day until their parents return from a day of hard work.
If more people would do likewise, think what significant impact we could have in the lives of so many children!.
